  39. System Requirements
  40. -------------------
  41. Stable Technical Graphs v2.0 is a Microsoft Windows application requiring
  42. the following minimal hardware configuration:
  43.  
  44.      o  An 80x86 personal computer running Microsoft Windows 3.1 and above.
  45.      o  2MB RAM (4MB recommended).
  46.      o  VGA (640x480) or higher resolution.
  47.      o  System mouse or other pointing device.
  48.      o  System printer for producing printed charts (optional).

  50. What Data Files Do I Use?
  51. -------------------------
  52. Stable Technical Graphs is a financial analysis and charting application
  53. requiring you to have existing (or access to) financial historical data in
  54. one of the following supported formats:
  55.  
  56.      o  TeleChart 2000 (TC2000)
  57.      o  MetaStock
  58.      o  CSI (Commodity System Inc.)
  59.      o  Technical Tools
  60.      o  ASCII CSV (Comma Separated Format)
  61.  
  62. ASCII CSV is the most flexible, allowing you to use (worst case) any ASCII
  63. text editor to edit and maintain your data files manually.  Most spreadsheets
  64. can also export or save data in this format if you choose to maintain your
  65. financial data files in this manner.

  70. We have provided several financial ASCII data files that you can use to
  71. evaluate and run Stable Technical Graphs.  To access these files, perform
  72. the following steps:
  73.  
  74.     1.  Select File/Open Chart... from the application menu.
  75.     2.  In the Open Chart dialog, select "CSV (ASCII)" as the import file
  76.         type and navigate to the directory you installed Stable Technical
  77.         Graphs.  The File Name list should display the following financial
  78.         data files:
  79.  
  80.            AAPL.CSV        Apple Computer, Inc.
  81.            HRB.CSV         H&R Block
  82.            DJ30.CSV        Dow Jones 30 Industrials
  83.  
  84.     3.  Select one of the sample files and click the OK button.
  85.  
  86.         See "Chapter 6 Data Files" in the shareware reference manual for
  87.         further details about ASCII file format (STABLE.TXT).

  90.         WINTERRA Software Group has a companion product called Stable Data
  91.         Assistant which provides both automated (via CompuServe) and manual
  92.         data maintenance features.  Shareware versions of this product can
  93.         be found online under the name DASST.ZIP or DASST102.ZIP.  Check
  94.         with your favorite shareware vendor, or mail $5 to us and request a
  95.         shareware version.

  98. Installation
  99. ------------
  100. The shareware distribution version of Stable Technical Graphs is normally
  101. provided in a compressed format (.ZIP, .ARC, etc.)
  102.  
  103.      1. The simplest form of installation is to copy the compressed shareware
  104.         file to a single directory (i.e. \STABLE).  If you have a previous
  105.         version of Stable Technical Graphs on your hard drive, and you want
  106.         to retain it, create a different directory (i.e., \STAB200).  The
  107.         data files that you will be using with this product (and provided
  108.         by you) can reside in any directory you choose.
  109.  
  110.      2. Decompress the Stable file using the appropriate decompression
  111.         program (PKUNZIP.EXE for .ZIP file, PKXARC.EXE for .ARC, etc.)
  112.         All distribution files should remain in the same directory.
  113.  
  114.         PLEASE READ CHAPTER 1  "INTRODUCTION" IN STABLE.TXT FOR ADDITIONAL
  115.         INSTALLATION AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION.

  117.      3. Execute STABLE.EXE from within the Windows environment.

  120. Version 2.0 Description
  121. -----------------------
  122. For a full description of features found in Stable Technical Graphs, refer
  123. to the files STABLE.TXT or DESCRIBE.TXT.
  124.  
  125. Some of the major changes found in this version over previous versions of
  126. Stable Technical Graphs include:
  127.  
  128.      o  TeleChart 2000 (TC2000) data compatible!
  129.      o  Financial groups can be created for organizing and collecting any
  130.         number of individual charts into a common group.
  131.      o  Interactive chart drawing tools; including trend lines, speed
  132.         resistance lines, and text attachments can be drawn and saved with
  133.         any chart.
  134.      o  All charts are scalable along the X and Y axis - and include chart
  135.         zoom and selectable area functionality.  As many as 16,384 days of
  136.         data are supported for each and every chart.
  137.      o  New indicators have been added including Point & Figure, Stochastic,
  138.         and Performance graphs.
  139.      o  Chart data can be exported to various ASCII file formats; including
  140.         the price history format used to import into Quicken(TM).
  141.      o  Improved desktop chart management has been provided using the 
  142.         standard Microsoft Windows Multiple Document Interface (MDI).
  143.      o  Up to 8 technical analysis indicators can be created on each chart.
  144.      o  Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) support has been built in - allowing you
  145.         to communicate directly with any Stable chart through the use of
  146.         third-party software (such as Microsoft Excel) to open, print, 
  147.         display - or to dynamically add new data to a chart.
  148.      o  The record count record (first record in the ASCII file) is no longer
  149.         supported in v2.0 of Stable.  Additionally, the data format record
  150.         is now optional.

  152.      *  The STABLE.INI file of previous versions of Stable Technical Graphs
  153.         is not supported in v2.0, and is now stored in the same directory
  154.         as the application.

  160.         by simply outputting the file contents to your system printer.
  161.         Documentation files include files with the .TXT extension.

  166.      o  Refer to the LICENSE.TXT file for complete information on product
